ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
Powerhouse ministry began as a purely church-based prayer group at First Baptist Church in Tema in the early '80s. This church was the first Baptist denomination established in the port city of Tema in Ghana. Before 1990, the group's focus was mainly prayer—praying for the local and universal church of Christ.
The year 1990 marked a turning point for this group. Towards the end of 1989, a crusade was held in Prampram, a nearby town. The souls that accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior were organized into a church. A member of First Baptist Church, who felt called to the ministry, was entrusted with the task of caring for the flock and adding other members through evangelism.. In town after town and village after village, we planted churches in the Dangbe area of Greater Accra.
By 2003, we had planted 18 churches. From 2003 to 2008, there was no activity as we waited on the Holy Spirit for the next move. In 2009, we started a church—Living Word Baptist Church at Gbetsile, a second one at Newland (Afienya) in 2014, and a third this year at Peaceland. We are planning and organizing our next move as we intend to plant a church every one and a half to two years.
As the work becomes more expensive, especially with the acquisition of land, we have developed a strategy of budgeting for each church planting project and inviting sponsors/partners to fund it. We started using this strategy this year in the establishment of Bread Of Life Baptist Church at Peaceland.
